About CHDC
History
The
Community Housing Development of North Richmond was incorporated as a
community-based nonprofit affordable housing developer in 1990. CHDC
emerged from a Housing Development Committee of the Neighborhood House of
North Richmond, where there were growing concerns about the lack of good
quality affordable housing in the area. Several other community churches
and organizations involved in the formation of CHDC include Greater Richmond
Interfaith Program (GRIP), Sojourner Truth Presbyterian, and Davis Chapel
C.M.E. The Associates for Community Change and Development, a consulting
firm, assisted with the start-up research and fundraising activities,
resulting in a seed grant from Presbyterian U.S.A. which allowed CHDC to
organize and incorporate as a nonprofit organization.
Mission
The mission of
Community Housing Development Corporation of North Richmond is to provide
permanent and affordable housing in North Richmond, primarily for current
and former residents of the community. Community Housing Development
Corporation of North Richmond’s objective is to eliminate the current
blighted condition and develop housing for residents of North Richmond while
attracting residents from outside the area who would benefit from owning or
renting quality affordable housing. CHDC will continue to develop
affordable housing throughout the Communities in West Contra Costa County.
We are a non-profit
community development organization dedicated to the development of
affordable housing, community organizing, homeownership education and asset
building and preservation.
