San Francisco Foundation supports CHDC foreclosure intervention

We are pleased to announce a $50,000 grant from the San Francisco Foundation as part of its 2010 Priority Funding in response to the recession and its collateral effects. The grant will continue CHDC’s HUD-approved education and intervention to homeowners, primarily with low incomes, at risk of foreclosure. By preventing foreclosures wherever possible, and helping borrowers recover more quickly if foreclosure is inevitable, this program helps keep families and neighborhoods economically stable.

Senior Counselor Katrina Vizinau Advises Federal Officials

CHDC Senior Housing Counselor Katrina Vizinau, who is a board member of the California Reinvestment Coalition, met with federal officials in Washington DC in December 2010 about policies related to foreclosure, credit access and neighborhood stabilization, and their impact on homeowners and neighborhoods with low incomes. She met with Federal Reserve Board Governors Duke and Bloom; US Treasury CDFI Executive Director Donna Gambrell; and FDIC Vice Chair Martin Gruenberg. Katrina and CHDC Housing Counselor Ffely Charun also discussed foreclosure issues with Elizabeth Warren who heads the new Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.

FHFA (Federal Housing Finance Administration), the regulator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, followed up with Katrina after her testimony about Fannie and Freddie policies that prevent low-income homeowners from saving their homes. FHFA requested Katrina’s input into their report on the Making Home Affordable Program and how Fannie and Freddie policies are affecting its deployment.

Because of FHFA’s interest, CRC staff has now reached out to the Northern California HUD Housing Counseling Network for their experience and observations on the impact of Fannie/Freddie policies on low-income homeowners, and is sharing survey results with FHFA.

Wells Fargo Volunteers Help Ready Home for New Owners

Saturday, Feb. 6, North Richmond – Seven employees of Wells Fargo Bank, alongside CHDC staff, converged on a North Richmond home with brushes, rollers and paint to prepare the home for new owners under the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program. CHDC purchased the home out of foreclosure and will sell it this spring to a family who is buying their first home and has a low or moderate income. By the end of the day the entire interior was sparkling with a fresh coat of white paint!
