Between 2004 and 2009 CHDC operated the North Richmond YouthBuild Program in collaboration with the Contra Costa County Redevelopment Agency and Housing Authority. Through this program more than 110 local young adults, ages 17-24, graduated from high school with a diploma or G.E.D., learned job skills and obtained living wage employment. The participants had previously dropped out of school and been unemployed; came from families living at or near the poverty level; and many were involved with the criminal justice system.
North Richmond YouthBuild's final graduating class completed the program in August, 2009. CHDC is proud of all the accomplishments of these and previous participants. YouthBuild members learned construction skills at CHDC housing development job sites; completed academic high school classes taught by John Muir Charter School; and received leadership and life skills training as well as job search support.
The City of Richmond operates a YouthBuild program. Applicants may inquire at the Richmond One Stop Center, 330 25th Street, Richmond, CA 94804, telephone 510-412-2048.
We would like to thank CHDC's partners in implementing North Richmond YouthBuild, listed below. Their contributions assured that the program could offer a wide variety of services, support and opportunities, which added greatly to the participants' success:
