An Overview of CHDC Real Estate Development

As a nonprofit developer of affordable homes for sale and rental, CHDC focuses on creating high quality housing opportunities that have a positive impact on current neighborhood residents. We meet with neighborhood organizations to hear and understand their interests throughout the course of each project. CHDC develops single family homes for first time buyers with low and moderate incomes; multi-unit affordable rental projects that upgrade the quality of housing options in their neighborhoods; and mixed-use projects that offer commercial as well as residential opportunities. We are recognized as a leading infill homeownership developer working with the City of Richmond and Contra Costa County.

CHDC develops housing for families of all sizes and ages, seniors, and people with disabilities. We emphasize affordability for people with incomes below 80% of the area median income. First time buyers of the homes we develop are prepared and qualified to purchase through CHDC's Homeownership Program.

CHDC Completed Developments

CHDC has developed or co-developed a total of 752 affordable housing units in the Richmond area. These include 216 new or rehabilitated homes sold to first time buyers with low or moderate incomes. Homeownership project sizes range from scattered-site, single family infill homes to an 87-home subdivision. We have also completed 536 units of rental housing, some of which are planned to offer residents a future ownership interest through a mutual housing organizational structure.
